David Hsu was part of a team that developed a new therapy to treat osteosarcoma, which is now ready for canine trials. Read more

Sandeep Dave was part of a team that was working to identify ancestry-specific cancer driver gene mutations and describe the genomic landscape of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Read more

DNA Methylation

Aging is a natural part of life, but aging also makes us more vulnerable to disease. Terrie Moffitt, Avshalom Caspi and team report four steps in their work towards developing a blood DNA methylation measure to represent individual variation in the pace of biological aging using data from the Dunedin Study. New methods and resources

Greg Wray and team introduced a method called adaptiPhy, which adds significant improvements to their earlier method that tests for branch-specific directional selection in noncoding sequences. These improvements provide a more sensitive and better targeted characterization of directional selection and neutral evolution across the genome. Read more

Greg Wray and team provide an annotated, chromosomal-level reference assembly for Lytechinus variegatus,  a camarodont sea urchin found widely throughout the western Atlantic Ocean. This genome will serve as a powerful resource to the scientific community for genome evolution and developmental, and ecological studies of this species and the Echinodermata. Read more


An interdisciplinary working group that included Jenny Tung reviewed key themes and emerging insights from various studies of social mammals in the context of observations first made in human populations. They explored cross-disciplinary ideas and perspectives on sociality, health and evolution. Read more
