Coursework

Students must take a minimum of 24 graded credits by the end of the fall semester of their third year. Typically, students take three 3-credit hour courses in each of their first two semesters to accumulate 18 credits. They can earn their remaining 6 credits during the second year and the beginning of the third year.

  • CBB 520: Genome Tools & Technologies – 3 credits
  • CBB 591: Independent Study (Rotations) – 3 credits [occurs twice: fall and spring]
  • CBB 510S: Computational Biology Seminar – 1 credit
  • CBB 511: Journal Club/Student Seminar – 1 credit

Required – Not for Credit

  • Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR) two day retreat in Greensboro, N.C.

Additional Courses taken by those lacking one or more prerequisite

  • Computer Science 330 or 530: Design and Analysis of Algorithms - 3 credits (prerequisite)
  • Statistics 611: Introduction to Mathematical Statistics – 3 credits (prerequisite)
  • Biology 201 or 202L – 3 credits (prerequisite)

Spring

  • CBB 561, 662 or 663: Algorithms in Computational Biology – 3 credits
