Sequencing Core to Retire HiSeq4000

Sequencing Core to Retire HiSeq4000

May 2, 2019

Due to the low demand and increasing costs for sequencing on our Illumina HiSeq 4000, we have made the decision to retire it, effective July 1, 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Sequencing and Genomic Technologies Shared Resource’s team is here to answer any questions you may have and, more importantly, help you transition your sequencing to different Illumina instruments. Our Shared Resource owns other Illumina instruments that can be used in place of the HiSeq 4000, such as the NovaSeq 6000 or the NextSeq.

Specifically, the S-Prime (SP) Flow Cell on the NovaSeq 6000 is designed for smaller run sizes and/or applications that require lower sequencing output. The SP flow cell provides better pricing than the HiSeq 4000 and is thus ideally suited for transitioning from the HiSeq 4000. Using the NovaSeq instrument will also help improve the overall turnaround time of your sequencing projects. The S-Prime flow cell has 2 lanes and is thus easier to fill. NovaSeq sequencing can be ordered  through our online ordering system DUGSIM (

If you are concerned that your libraries won’t sequence well on other instruments, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
