Faculty Instructions for Letters of Recommendation
Engage in research through the 10 week Summer Fellowship program within the interdisciplinary Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy (IGSP). Gain an appreciation of major questions in genome sciences and policy currently under investigation within the IGSP through faculty-mentored research projects as well as additional scheduled activities including: weekly lunch-lectures with faculty, science career dinners, IGSP seminars, student research discussions, planned social activities, and the end of summer research presentations.
There are numerous research interests and projects within the IGSP. Learn more about them through our faculty pages. Faculty-mentor matching attempts to incorporate the selected students' research interests. Summer research foci may include: population, cardiovascular, cancer, computational, environmental, evolutionary, structural or functional genomics. In addition participants will be exposed to topics in genome ethics and policy.
Application and Eligibility
The Summer Fellowships in Genome Sciences and Policy are open to current Freshman, Sophomore and Junior students from 4-year colleges and universities having successfully completed (or currently enrolled in) at least one biological sciences course. The grants require that all non-Duke participants be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. We welcome applications from all students and encourage women and individuals from minority groups to apply. Up to 14 students will be selected based on their academic record, statement of interest and letters of recommendation.
Please note, participants will not be able to take summer session courses.
Stipend and Housing
Student participants will be housed in Duke University residence facilities, most likely in Central Campus, for the duration of the program. In addition to housing, students will receive a stipend.
