University Program in Genetics & Genomics (UPGG)
UPGG serves as the primary training environment for students at Duke University interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Genetics and Genomics and has existed for the past 25 years as a forum for those interested in genetic and genomic approaches to questions of biological interest. The program consists of ~ 60 students and ~ 70 faculty members, and spans both basic science and clinical departments and serves as a bridge between the medical center and the college of arts and sciences.
This graduate training program is degree granting where students can receive degrees from either the UPGG or their host departments. The curriculum requirements are flexible. Students are required to take two full semester courses, Genetic Analysis (UPG378) and Evolutionary Genetics (UPG287), one additional full semester course with an emphasis in genetics, and two mini-courses selected from a variety of offerings.
